About Agreed Divorces

Giving You the Care & Compassion You Deserve During Divorce by the Evans Family Law Group

Our practicing manager and founder, James "Jimmy" W. Evans, has been Board Certified in the practice of family law since 2010. Mr. Evans has been recognized by Texas Monthly Magazine as a Texas "Super Lawyer" in 2015, 2016, and 2017. An experienced custody and divorce lawyer, Jimmy utilizes his considerable courtroom and litigation experience to help Texans resolve their divorces amicably and create "win-win" solutions for clients.

Jimmy's experience enables him to find solutions that meet the needs of the entire family. Mr. Evans believes that the "legal solution" of bitterly battling over a divorce in the courtroom is not always what's best for the family and prefers working with clients to arrive at an amicable resolution. At Agreed Divorces, you can rely on us to guide you through complex divorce-related processes, such as child custody, the division of assets and debts, and more.

We know that divorce can seem like an impossible challenge. We're bring integrity to the divorce process, empowering couples to resolve their divorce with respect, dignity, and grace. We work closely with our clients to draft case strategies and divorce decrees custom-tailored to their needs and circumstances.

As part of our commitment to making uncontested divorce (also called "Agreed Divorce") streamlined and user-friendly for our clients, we use a flat-fee pricing model. We'll tell you up-front how much our services cost, so you never have to worry about hidden fees or paying us to be "on the clock."

We utilize a unique six-step process to help clients resolve Agreed Divorces. To help you learn more about our methodology, we've provided a brief summary of the procedure below. You can visit our Process page to receive a more in-depth overview of our methods.

Most Agreed Divorces Can Be Completed Within 120 days.

If both parties to the Agreed Divorce avoid conflict and have transparent communication throughout the process, the divorce process should wrap up quickly. If documents are signed promptly, an Agreed Divorce can be finalized in 120 days or less. There are exceptions to this timeframe, but things can generally be completed quickly if all parties stick with the plan.

Our six-step process is as follows:

Step 1: Free Consultation

During the free consultation, Mr. Evans will sit down with you to explain the process, identify key issues, answer questions, and develop a case strategy that pursues your best interests and protects your rights. Free consultations typically take around an hour.

Step 2: File Your Petition

We file the initial divorce petition in court on behalf of the initiating party. The petition is then shared with both parties to maintain transparency and goodwill. Since both parties agree on how to proceed in an uncontested divorce, we won't have to ask a constable or other third party to serve your spouse with the divorce petition.

Step 3: Work Out the Details Using Our Online Questionnaire

Texas law requires that all couples wait a minimum of 60 days before the divorce may be finalized. During the waiting period, you and your spouse will work with our family law counselor to negotiate various aspects of the divorce in more detail and fill out our online questionnaire. This process covers various aspects of the divorce, including child custody, visitation, division of assets, finances, liabilities, and more.

Step 4: Draft the Initial Divorce Decree

Once you complete the questionnaire with your spouse and reach an agreement, our staff will create a working Draft of an Agreed Final Decree of Divorce for your review. We then work with you to make any necessary revisions. As a final measure to protect your best interests, Mr. Evans will personally look over the decree and make any necessary adjustments. Once you and your spouse are completely satisfied with the decree, we'll move on to the next step.

Step 5: Review and Sign Final Documents

Upon completion of the Agreed Final Decree of Divorce, you and your spouse will conduct a final review to ensure you're both happy with the decree. If both parties approve of the decree, they must sign and return it to the Attorney. For your convenience, you can now submit all signatures electronically through any touch screen device.

Step 6: Finalize Divorce

Once both parties sign the decree, you will need to schedule a time with our office to confirm the Agreed Divorce in court. This step is referred to as a "prove-up." After completing the prove-up, the court will officially finalize your divorce and dissolve your marriage.

At Agreed Divorces, have more than 20 years of experience helping Texans resolve uncontested divorces.
